Local Grocer Sees Wrecked Machine

Visits Nicholas County on Hunting Trip- Gives Vivid Story of the Sight.

Allen Pack, of the Union Cash Grocery, returned Tuesday evening from a hunting and fishing trip through Nicholas County near where the ill-fated government Martin bombing plane No. 5 dropped to earth and was not found until several days afterward.

Raleigh, W.Va.

Mr. Pack states, that from what he could learn through army officers on the scene, the destruction of the plane came about just about as was reported by the aviators who saw it when it took a tail-spin earthward. He states though, that the young man, Corporal Alexander C. Hazelton who was alive when the plane was found, could give little details as to how the accident occurred. He however told a story of how after dragging himself from the ruins of the giant bomber he had talked on Sunday to one of the men who was later found dead, who had not died until Sunday afternoon some time.

Mr. Pack states that the plane, when it fell, tore down two large trees in a ravine and a part of the wings of the plane were torn off and were hanging on one of the trees nearby. The machine was not burned as first reported but was completely wrecked and demolished so far as its ever being serviceable or repaired was concerned.
