Re: Legion Ville Preservation

Dear Governor Rendell:

I am very concerned about the controversial issue surrounding the preservation of

the historical/archaeological site of Legion Ville, located in Harmony Township,

Beaver County, Pennsylvania.  I applaud the 30-year effort of the Legion Ville

Historical Society, Inc. (www.legionville.com) to preserve the 1792-1793 military

training camp of Major General Anthony Wayne, a fellow Pennsylvanian. I strongly

believe that our nation’s heritage should not be sacrificed in the name of

commercial development.

Recently, the State of Ohio preserved the Fallen Timbers Battlefield near

Perrysburg, Ohio.  The success of General Wayne at Fallen Timbers was

attributed in large part to the discipline and training instilled at Legion Ville.

The role of Legion Ville in this campaign is only now being recognized.  This rich

archaeological site also contains the remains of numerous Native American

occupations and is quite possibly the same location as the Village of Logstown.

This property played a major role in United States history and every effort to

preserve it must be made.

We as a nation should be proud of our rich history.  We should make every effort

to preserve our cultural heritage so future generations can learn about the

sacrifices made to make this great nation.  I ask that you, as Governor of the great

State of Pennsylvania join and firmly support the preservation efforts of those

who truly value their American heritage.

Sincerely,
