YOU CAN HELP PRESERVE LEGION VILLE
UPDATED 1
JUNE 2006

IT'S EASY! The preservation of
Legion Ville is rapidly becoming a national issue. In the past few months, we
have received hundreds of letters from across the country in support of
preserving General Wayne's training ground. All who write ask how they may
become involved in our efforts? It's easy! Take a
look at who we are, our efforts, and our mission. If you believe that Legion
Ville should take its rightful place in American history, send a letter of
strong support to the following individuals. Together, we can preserve Legion Ville.

LeRoy Friend of Northwest Chevrolet/Geo
in Ambridge, Pennsylvania,
decided that he was going to build a new car dealership on the northwest corner
of the National Register (1975) site of Legion Ville. To achieve this end, he
solicited the Beaver County Commissioners to give their blessing to his
project. As in all aspects of Beaver County
politics, they paved the way for the destruction of the site. Mr. Friend then
asked to have this piece of Legion Ville removed from the National Register of
Historic Places. The keeper of the register had no choice but to comply, thanks
to the Beaver County Commissioners. When General Motors contacted LeRoy Friend
to ask whether he planned to build a GM dealership on a National Register Site,
he said no. It gets better. Mr. Friend then went to Century National Bank for a
$1,325,000 loan. His collateral was 5.86+ acres of land directly across the
street from Legion Ville. Mr. Friend later obtained an $620,000 loan using the
same piece of property for collateral. Congressional Aide Bryan Hayden, has repeatedly
stated that Eat N' Park is going to build a restaurant on the site (instead of
the car dealership). When contacted, Steven Espesido, head of Real Estate
Acquisition for the chain stated that, "...why would we build an Eat N'
Park on a historic site and besides we have an establishment in Sewickley, only
four miles away. If you hear those rumors again, please contact this
office." At a meeting of the Legion Ville Task Force on February 12, 1997,
Congressional Aide Bryan Hayden (Congressman Ron Klink) reiterated his
assertion that Eat N' Park was going to build on the site. *See- Political
Front for quote.
Yes folks! This is a prime example
of the political buffoonery taking place in Beaver
County at the expense of American
heritage.
If you feel that a General Motors
dealership on this National Historic Landmark is wrong, then we urge you to
please voice your opinion.
UPDATE: 2004
In February 2004, Wright Pontiac in Ambridge,
Pennsylvania bought 4.86 acres of the land
mentioned above. One acre of that
property now has a dialyses clinic upon it. Wright Pontiac then bought additional acreage south of this
property. They now own about ten
acres. This is part of the
National Register of Historic Places property of Legion Ville. They plan to build a car dealership on
the property. This is the area
where GAI Consultants, an archaeological firm in Monroeville,
Pa., found over 700 features of the camp and
earlier Native American remains. A
concerned citizen is now attempting to contact Rick Wagoner to inform him of
this project. As of 17
November 2004, he has steadfastly refused to respond. The Pennsylvania Historical and Museum
Commission is now attempting to contact the parties involved.
UPDATE: 2006
RKW Real Estate, AKA Wright
Pontiac of Wexford, Pennsylvania owns the property and plans to build a car
dealership on the site. When
contacted a spokesperson for GM (LaNeve’s office) stated that GM was not
interested and did not care where private dealers build. Go Bless America…
