Commercial Development of the site Maj. Gen. Anthony’s Wayne’s 1792 military encampment, Legion Ville, Pa., where the American Army supposedly was reborn, has been suspended by the need for Phase III or final archaeological evaluation of the area. The 22 undeveloped acres in Harmony Township north of Pittsburgh are targeted for construction of a shopping center by B. Paul Mouradian despite its inclusion on the National Register of Historic Places as being of national historic significance. In order to obtain clearance for permission to develop the land, Mouradian is required to underwrite archaeological research on the site. This is now stalemated while Mouradian claims that he lacks the $50,000 estimated that the final phase will cost.

Meanwhile a Sept. 14 meeting at Ambridge, Pa., with the Legion Ville Historical Society, representatives of U.S. Rep. Ron Klink, local commissioners and others opposing the development, pledged funds to support any legal work necessary to preserve the site.
